The latest ABTA Travel Trends report has just been released and one of their findings is that the over 55 market is set to be a key growth area.
Last year, 10% of over 55s took four or more holidays abroad -an interesting statistic particularly in difficult economic times and one which, according the ABTA, is set to continue.
Having identified this market already, the Real Travel group have already been providing to the over 55s for nearly a decade in the form of Gap Year for Grown Ups, recently rebranded as Inspired Breaks, which offers gap style travel experiences to a more mature travellers. In fact, their oldest traveller Eric is in his 80s and continues to book through Inspired Breaks!
Research findings like those of ABTA will often uncover statistics which could guide the product offerings of our companies. However, the key value is in identifying these groups from the beginning and, like Inspired Breaks, offering products which aid the growth of the market rather than “jumping on board” once market trends become apparent.
